African American and African Studies: Assistant Professor – Ethnomusicology - Joint Search with Music
The School of Music and the Department of African American and African Studies announce a faculty opening in Ethnomusicology, with a specialty in African music. Tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the School of Music; joint appointment between the School of Music and the Department of African American and African Studies; to begin in Autumn 2010. Responsibilities include teaching courses at all levels, undergraduate and graduate, on diverse topics in ethnomusicology, notably including African and African American music cultures; directing theses and dissertations; maintaining the level of scholarly and service contributions appropriate for a faculty member at a major research university; contributing to the leadership, curriculum development, and administration of the OSU ethnomusicology program. The ability to lead a student ensemble of African music and dance is desirable. Required qualifications: Ph.D. in ethnomusicology with a specialty in African music; experience in field research in Africa; excellence, and future promise, in teaching and scholarship. African-American and African Studies: Assistant Professor – Sociology
The Department of African American and African Studies at The Ohio State University invites applications and nominations for applications for a tenure-eligible assistant professor of Sociology. We are looking for a candidate whose research and teaching commitments examine the sociology of African Americans. Art: Assistant Professor – Painting and Drawing
The Department of Art at The Ohio State University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in painting and drawing. Appointment begins Autumn 2010.
Qualifications: M.F.A. degree, preferably two or more years university-level teaching experience beyond the terminal degree or equivalent; an active professional creative practice with evidence of building an exhibition record of substance. We are looking for a candidate with expertise in painting and drawing and fluency in conceptual and historical frameworks including but not limited to narrative, video, technology, and installation. Art Education: Associate/Full Professor – Visual/Material Culture
The Department of Art Education seeks a tenure track Associate/Full Professor in Visual/Material Culture. The candidate's duties will include the opportunity to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in visual and material culture, a course in Critical Dialogue about Art for our Core Teacher Program and our On-Line M.A. Programs, and a summer course in M.A. Thesis/Project Research for our On-Line Programs. The candidate will also be required to advise and serve on committees for M.A. and Ph.D. students. Other duties include conducting research in visual and material culture education and serving the Department/University and broader education and local communities. The required qualifications include a doctoral degree (Ph.D.), and knowledge of: cultural studies; visual culture; material culture; feminism; semiotics; and critical theory and pedagogy. Dance: Assistant Professor - Open Field
The Department of Dance seeks a scholar who will contribute significantly to the doctoral program in teaching, research, and the advising of candidacy exams and doctoral dissertations. Position is a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professorship. Ph.D. required; prior teaching experience in a dance program preferred. Starting date: Autumn 2010. History of Art: Assistant Professor – Historian of Byzantine/Medieval Art

Near Eastern Languages and Cultures: Assistant Professor – Arabic Language Pedagogy
The Ohio State University, Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures (NELC), invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor of Arabic language, expected to teach language courses at all levels, with an additional area of specialization in an area of 18th, 19th or 20th century Arabic social history, linguistics, sociolinguistics, literary studies, media studies or cultural theory. Other contemporary specializations/theoretical orientations also considered. The applicant should have experience in working with and commitment to Arabic language instruction as the successful applicant will be expected to train and supervise graduate students in teaching elementary and intermediate Arabic as well as to teach a broader range of topics in his or her specialty at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to supervise doctoral candidates.
