Aimee Nezhukumatathil (B.A. English, 1996; M.F.A. English, 2000) was awarded the Thompson Alumni Award which recognizes young alumni who have demonstrated distinctive achievement in their careers. Aimee was presented with the award at the OSU Alumni Association's Alumni Awards Banquet on Friday, September 25 at the Hyatt Regency. Aimee can deservedly be called an outstanding scholar and teacher; she is currently making her mark on the world with her poetry, which has rightfully brought her considerable acclaim. Aimee's poetry is based on lush descriptions of landscapes and exotic foods which derive from her Filipino and South Indian backgrounds. In recognition of her considerable talents, Aimee was recently named a 2009 National Endowment for the Arts Fellow, one of only 42 individuals selected from about 1,700 applicants. In addition to being a poet, Aimee is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at SUNY Fredonia. President Dennis L. Hefner of SUNY Fredonia explains, "It has been my pleasure to watch the rapid upward trajectory of Aimee's career."

Aimee is a most deserving recipient of this prestigious Alumni Association Award, and we congratulate her for her achievements.
